Day 3: O Lamb Of God - Bridge Lyrics

Brrr. Shabby Road is cold. I sit at my enormous desk with the heater underneath with the metal struts heating up to melting point while I write with my coat and hat on.

For the last few songs I've been following Jason Blume's advice to plan out all the sections of the song and what I want to say in each one in advance. For some reason I didn't on O Lamb Of God and now I have to reverse engineer what I want to say in the middle. Not easy, and I'm hemmed in by the mood of the music too. Today a tried a few ideas.

I've got a little pre-writing ritual that I'm trying to get stuck in my head. I touch every wall (except the ceiling of course) and thank God for the place to write, then I try to sing a worship song to fix my eyes on the author of all creation before I try to create anything.

Today I sang Son Of God/God The Son. It's a good song that never really took off the way I hoped. Don't know why. After a while you start to rate your songs the way everyone else does, so in my mind it's become a bit of a failure. But it's got some good stuff in it & I like it.

Day 2: O Lamb Of God

Before setting off for an early evening session at the Matt Cave (aka Shabby Road) I was playing through Maxwell's Silver Hammer for Beatles Songwriting Academy (it's a dirty job but erm...I have to do it) and I think that part of the problem is McCartney probably painted himself into a corner with a very rigid melody and rhyme scheme. Writing lyrics to a 18 year old melody tonight I wondered if I might have made the same mistake. I mean, add one extra syllable and you feel like you're the biggest freakin cop out in the universe.

Curse you, inner critic!

So anyway I did an hour and a half and got the 3rd verse. I've decided to ignore any problems with theological ambiguity for now.

Keep writing...Just keep writing...

Showing Up: Day 1

Eighty percent of success is showing up. 

Here's day one in my attempt to be '80% more successful' in songwriting by showing up every day.

Spent about an hour over at Shabby Road working on O Lamb of God.

I wrote a tune in 1992 called Spaghetti Western. It was just about the only time I've written a tune without an instrument and then worked out the chords afterwards. It was very different from the hair metal and shredding guitar instrumentals I'd been  knocking out. I never had any idea what to do with it as it sounded so different. Like...well..the theme from a spaghetti western. But now I feel like Tom Waits has touched me on the head with his magic wand and given me permission to finally do something with it. Anyway...Back to 2011

Lyrics. Got verse one and coda, spent time on verse 2 & 3. Still need a bridge.
